What if you could head into your interviews calm and confident, knowing what you’re going to be asked?

What if you could develop perfect responses to any traditional interview question, even those about complex issues like Obamacare?

What if you knew exactly what to expect during MMI interviews and could handle any station adcoms throw at you?

What if you could go straight from interview to acceptance, without having to enter “waitlist purgatory” or stress about when to send update letters?

Receiving a med school interview invitation is one of the most exciting aspects of the admissions process.

You’ve spent years of late nights studying while your non-premed friends were going out, filling your time outside class with extracurriculars instead of relaxing, spending months prepping for the MCAT when you could have gone on memorable trips, and writing essay after essay.

With an interview invitation, you validate years of sacrifice and can start to see your dream of becoming a physician turning into reality.

It’s also exciting to start wondering which school you’ll be attending, where you’ll be living, and whom you’ll be meeting.

But then, reality quickly sets in and your mind starts wondering…

  • Whom will I be interviewing with?

  • Is it going to be a traditional, MMI, or hybrid interview?

  • Am I going to get curveball questions, like about healthcare policy?

  • Are they going to grill me about a blemish on my application or ask uncomfortable personal questions?

  • What should I wear?

  • How do I make sure my audio, video, and background come across as professional during a virtual interview?

Concerns like these are incredibly common. We’ve heard them for nearly two decades.

But during those same two decades, we’ve also assisted students with getting into the most prestigious private med schools (e.g., HMS, Hopkins, NYU), public med schools (e.g., UCLA, UCSF, Michigan, UVA), and every other noteworthy program you can think of.

Yes, med school admissions has gotten increasingly harder.

And yes, the pandemic dramatically changed the interview process, as every med school started doing virtual interviews, a trend that continues.

What’s been consistent, however, is our students’ readiness every time they interview.

It’s easy to look at students who get into med school and try to explain how they got in due to some factor you don’t have–a “better school,” slightly stronger MCAT score, being the resident of an “easier state,” etc.

But the truth is that ultra successful students prepare meticulously for every phase of the application cycle.

When it comes to interviews, that means knowing a school’s interview format, questions to expect, excellent response content and delivery, and how to communicate fit between your background and their mission.

We want you to go into the interview process with this same level of preparation.

You’re so close to the finish line. Don’t stumble. Celebrate.

Why med schools interview you

It’s interesting how even the most anxious applicants never ask why med schools interview them.

Don’t med schools already have enough information about you?

Yes, they have enough demographic, academic, extracurricular, and even personal information.

What they don’t have is a sense of who you are “in the room”–your personality, presence, and personability.

If all med schools wanted was more information, they’d ask you to write another essay.

With an interview, adcoms will get to see firsthand whether the “application you” is the “real-life you.”

If you’ve been invited to an interview, your application materials are “good enough” in adcoms’ eyes.

The only thing that stands in your way of getting into med school is how well you’re able to convey your compelling background, commitment to medicine, and potential contributions to the program evaluating you.

Do you think you’re already a strong interviewee? Great! But are you willing to prepare solo rather than employ proven methods?

Are you a so-so interviewee who needs additional assistance? If so, you’ve come to the right place and we can help take your preparation to the next level so you can get admitted.

How important are med school interviews?

The short answer: Critically important.

With a weak interview performance, you’re doomed, no matter how strong your applications are.

But a good interview also doesn’t guarantee acceptance.

So, how great do you have to be on interview day?

It’s a function of how competitive the program is and how strong you are as an applicant.

Consider the following diagram:

Average vs Strong applicant diagram

If you’re a strong applicant relative to the program that’s invited you—terrific stats, extracurriculars, rec letters, essays—you’ll have less ground to cover during the interview.

On the flip side, if you’re coming into an interview with, say, lower-than-average stats for that program or mediocre essays, you’ll need to be exceptional during your interview.

The bottom line is this: Just because you’re invited to an interview does not mean that you’re on an equal playing field with your competition.

Based on your stats or application materials, you may actually be behind a majority of your interviewing peers.

There is still work to do.

How to become an exceptional interviewee

We can’t tell you the number of times that we’ve heard students say “I’m just not a good interviewee.” as though they’re born with some interview deficiency.

Or the number of times students have told us, “So long as I get an interview, I’ll be fine.” like they can impress any person at any time, or know schools inside and out.

Whether or not you believe you’re a natural when it comes to interviewing, you’ll need to hone the following areas to ace med school interviews:

  • Developing in-depth knowledge of the schools that are interviewing you.

  • Researching the types of questions you’re likely to be asked.

  • Coming up with excellent responses to common questions.

  • Mastering the delivery of your responses, because how you answer matters, at least as much as your actual words.

Chances are that you’re less-than-expert in one or more of these areas.

Perhaps you’re not sure how to differentiate schools simply through evaluating their websites.

Perhaps you’re unsure what makes for an amazing interview answer.

Perhaps you’ve developed awesome response content but are coming across as arrogant or robotic in your delivery.

Any one of these weaknesses could lead you to be being placed on a waitlist—or worse yet, rejected—rather than receiving an acceptance.

Unfortunately, advanced interview prep resources are extremely limited.

Most guides or videos on med school interview prep focus on basic “tips” to do well, giving you generic advice like “Be yourself.” or “Show enthusiasm.”

But there’s very little about developing actually strong responses—let alone great sample responses—or how to come across as confident and humble.

Because it’s always been our goal to develop high-yield resources to help you navigate your premed journey, we’ve created numerous interview prep resources, like our popular YouTube video on the perfect “tell me about yourself” response.

But we wanted to go deeper.

Rather than provide a few strategies and sample responses, we decided to provide you with every resource you need to excel on interview day.

You only get one live opportunity to show schools how wonderful you are, so we want you to leave nothing to chance.

Don’t leave your med school interviews to chance

We’ve seen too many students devote years of effort to school, extracurriculars, and applications, only to stumble during their med school interviews.

Unfortunately, they “wing it,” fail to impress, and end up waitlisted or rejected.

As a reminder, you have only one live opportunity to impress adcoms.

Have a great interview day, and you go from “impressive on paper” to medical student.

With a so-so performance, you’ll compromise your chances of getting into med school, despite years of hard work.

We hope to see you in the course and look forward to helping you become a doctor.
