USMLE Tutoring

Looking for an experienced tutor to help you pass USMLE Step 1 and maximize your Step 2 score?

Because it’s a gateway to your medical career, the USMLE series is incredibly stressful. You can spend years excelling in your coursework and clerkships, but a failing score on Step 1 or a low score on Step 2 CK can limit your options, especially if you’re aiming for a competitive specialty.

While medical school teaches you the basic science and clinical medicine you need, the USMLE isn’t just a test of what you know. You can memorize every detail in First Aid, but if you haven’t mastered how to approach multi-step clinical vignettes under time pressure, you won’t reach your highest possible performance.

Unfortunately, most students find that the standard resources fall short. They cover a huge amount of content, but they don’t teach you how to decide what matters most, how to dissect a question stem, or how to eliminate answer choices when two seem right. Students end up grinding through thousands of questions, repeating the same reasoning errors, and wondering why their practice scores have plateaued.

Stakes and format also vary by exam. Step 1 is now pass/fail, so there’s little room for error and a lot of anxiety about whether you’re truly prepared. Step 2 CK is still scored, and residency programs weigh it heavily, so every point can matter. Each exam calls for a different approach, and a plan that worked for one won’t necessarily work for the other.

Rather than let inadequate prep put your performance or your residency applications at risk, you should study the right way. Focus on the high-yield content that’s actually tested, and then build the test-taking strategies, pacing, and stamina to perform at your best. That way, you’ll walk into exam day knowing you did everything you could.

However, you may not know which topics deserve your limited time, or how to tell whether you’re improving. You may also be juggling rotations, research, or a full course load while you study.

This is where we come in. Our tutors, who are practicing physicians and residents who scored at the top percentiles on their Step exams, can help you prepare efficiently, perform with confidence, and put yourself in the strongest position for the residency match.

Frequently asked questions

Our USMLE tutoring is conducted online through live, one-on-one video sessions. You and your tutor can share screens, review practice questions, and work through clinical vignettes together in real time, wherever you are studying.

You can also contact your tutor between sessions with questions or topics you would like to review. Your tutor can use your practice results and missed-question logs to plan sessions around your most important needs.
Yes. We tailor tutoring to the exam you are preparing for. Step 1 preparation emphasizes foundational medical science, applying concepts to clinical scenarios, and building reliable readiness to pass. Step 2 CK preparation places greater emphasis on clinical reasoning, diagnosis, management decisions, and strategies for improving your three-digit score.
Absolutely. Your tutor will consider your baseline performance, results from NBME self-assessments, school deadlines, dedicated study time, and any upcoming rotations when discussing possible test dates.

For Step 1, we look for consistent evidence that you are ready to pass. For Step 2 CK, we consider your practice-score trends and target score. We will help you build a realistic schedule and discuss when the best time for you to test will be.
Our USMLE tutoring draws on four areas: content review, test-taking strategy, guided question practice, and performance review. You and your tutor will decide how much time to devote to each area based on your needs.

For example, one session might focus on a weak organ system, while another might involve working through timed clinical vignettes or reviewing an NBME self-assessment. The goal is to improve the way you reason through questions, not simply memorize more material.
Yes. Your tutor will develop a study plan around your current performance, test date, available study time, and learning needs. Your plan can combine content review, question-bank practice, spaced repetition, periodic self-assessments, and anything else to best guide you to success.

As you improve, your tutor can adjust the schedule so you spend less time on areas you have mastered and more time on the topics and question types that are still holding you back.
We look at more than the number of questions you complete. Your tutor can review question-bank accuracy, timing, missed-question patterns, and performance across NBME self-assessments to identify where you are improving and where you need more work.

For Step 1, NBME assessments can help estimate your probability of passing, although no practice exam can guarantee a result. For Step 2 CK, your tutor can use practice-score trends and content-area feedback to assess progress toward your goal.
Of course. If you only need help with a particular area, such as pharmacology, biostatistics, cardiology, ethics, or patient-management questions, we can focus your tutoring accordingly. We can also work specifically on pacing, question interpretation, or strategy.
That depends on which Step exam you are taking, your current performance, your timeline, and how much support you need. Some students benefit from a smaller number of sessions focused on specific weaknesses, while others need a more comprehensive plan throughout their dedicated study period.

Our team can help you determine an appropriate number of tutoring hours based on your goals and availability.
Your tutor can help you make effective use of established USMLE resources, including NBME self-assessments, question banks, and high-yield content-review or spaced-repetition resources when appropriate.

Rather than overwhelming you with additional materials, we will help you prioritize the resources that best address your needs. Any subscriptions or materials included with your tutoring plan will be identified before enrollment.
Yes. If you are preparing for a retake, we can review your previous performance and practice-test results, identify what may have contributed to your outcome, and build a more targeted study plan. Your tutor can help address knowledge gaps, clinical reasoning, timing, and test-day strategy so you are better prepared for your next attempt.
We understand that medical school coursework, clinical rotations, and dedicated study periods can create demanding schedules. We work with you to hand-select a tutor who best matches your availability.
Yes. In addition to content and strategy, your tutor can help you establish a consistent approach to timed questions, practice under realistic conditions, and build the stamina needed for a lengthy exam. We can also help you identify test-taking habits, such as excessive second-guessing or rushing, that may interfere with your performance.
Yes. If you have approved testing accommodations, we can adapt practice timing, breaks, and session strategies so your preparation reflects your anticipated exam-day conditions. If you are still requesting accommodations, you can discuss your timeline with our team. Formal accommodations requests and decisions are handled through the USMLE program.
Our tutoring team will contact you promptly to learn more about your goals, availability, and exam date. We will then coordinate your tutor match and first session as quickly as possible, while ensuring the best quality pairing for your specific needs.
Yes. We also offer separate residency admissions consulting, including ERAS application and personal statement support, program selection, and interview preparation.
